21st May 2009 The Oxford Farming Conference is inviting expressions of interest from people interested in joining the nine-strong team of Directors from January 2010 for a three year term. The Council works as a team to deliver the Conference programme, speakers and the charitable works undertaken by the Oxford Farming Conference. The team is supported by a professional secretariat and a treasurer.
“We need directors who have a breadth of experience in the agri-food or land management sectors and who have an extensive network of contacts both in the business and agricultural community in the UK and further afield,” explains Heather Peck, OFC Chairman for 2010. “The positions are wholly honorary but reasonable expenses are reimbursed and attendance at the Conference is free of charge.”
The Oxford Farming Conference takes place early in January every year; it sets the agenda for the year ahead for an entire industry. Speakers are of the highest calibre, including leaders from the agricultural industry worldwide, the heads of international food retail businesses, international politicians, successful young farmers, and scientists at the forefront of their field. “I am in my final year as a Director, and I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the planning and delivery of such a dynamic and thought-provoking Conference,” Heather Peck adds.
The OFC is particularly interested in individuals who are passionate about the future of farming and can demonstrate one or more of the following skill areas: 1) A track record of successful innovation in agriculture or horticulture 2) Experience of developing agricultural policies and strategy 3) Highly effective communication and PR skills 4) Broad and effective networks of contacts across the public, private and academic sectors, with particular interest in building contacts across the EC 5) Creative ideas and concepts for the future development of the OFC
Those selected as members will be invited to attend three Council meetings from September to December 2009 (prior to formal appointment) and will then be expected to attend eight Council meetings pa and the Oxford Farming Conference itself for their three year term.
