OFC launches scholar travel award to Agritechnica, Germany

The Oxford Farming Conference (OFC) is launching a travel scholarship in association with Young DLG, the young member network of the German Agricultural Society. The OFC will fully fund three British scholars to attend Agritechnica, Germany's flagship farming show, in November 2015. As part of the association, Young DLG will be sending two board members to attend the 2015 OFC from 6-8 January.

"The aim of the exchange we have started, is to give young British and German agriculturalists a really valuable learning opportunity at the leading agricultural events in Germany and the UK, and for them to meet like-minded people, from other countries, working in the farming sector," explains OFC Director, Martin Davies.

The two German attendees coming to OFC 2015 are Stefan Cramm and Malte Isermeyer; both sit on the board of the Young DLG. The pair hope to use their trip to gain a good overview of British agriculture, make contacts with young farmers from the UK and develop further areas of collaboration between organisations from the UK with Young DLG.

"DLG is an ideal partner for this scholarship programme given their remit of promoting technical and scientific progress, a sentiment wholly shared by the OFC," Mr Davies added.

The 41 UK scholars attending the 2015 OFC will be invited to apply for the trip to Agritechnica in November. Selection will be based on an assessment of scholars interaction and participation in the various workshops run at the conference. They will also be required to complete an application form by 1 March 2015 outlining why they should be selected. Successful applicants will be informed in September 2015.
