Oxford Farming Conference invites applications for Inspiring Innovators 2027

Inspiring Innovators Talk

The Oxford Farming Conference (OFC), in partnership with McCain Foods, is inviting applications for Inspiring Innovators 2027, the programme that supports new thinking from across the agricultural, food and rural sectors.

Now in its third year, Inspiring Innovators offers individuals the chance to share ideas, research or technologies with more than 700 delegates, including farmers, policymakers, academics and industry leaders. The programme has become a valued part of OFC, providing a platform for practical solutions and emerging voices from across the industry.

The 2027 conference (6-8 January) will explore the theme “Harmony”, focusing on how the sector can break down silos, share knowledge and work more effectively together. This year’s Inspiring Innovators programme will highlight ideas that support that ambition, whether through new concepts or existing projects ready to develop further. The selected participants will take to the main stage during the opening afternoon of the conference on Wednesday 6th January 2027.

Last year’s cohort demonstrated the variety of ideas emerging across the sector, from simpler subsidy management and improved livestock environments to new approaches to mentoring and crop diversification. Since participating, members of the group have gone on to establish new partnerships, secure further speaking opportunities and raise the profile of their work.

Keir Doe, part of the 2025 Inspiring Innovators cohort and founder of Renewables Connect, said: “If you get the chance to take part in the Inspiring Innovation Programme - do it! You will pitch to a range of people, doors will open and you will meet lots of really interesting people on the programme and at the Conference. The experience takes you out of your comfort zone, but it is well worth it!”.

As part of the 2027 programme, each selected innovator will attend a dedicated Bootcamp Day at McCain’s Scarborough facility in November, receiving presentation and communications training, alongside the opportunity to trial their talk ahead of the conference. Successful applicants will receive a full conference ticket, two nights’ accommodation and invitations to the Chair’s Reception and the Christ Church Dinner, ensuring maximum opportunity to network and engage with delegates throughout the three days.

OFC27 Chair Sheena Horner said: “Inspiring Innovators has quickly become a highlight of the conference, bringing forward ideas that are thoughtful, practical and rooted in real experience. It has been encouraging to see entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators use the opportunity to build confidence, make new connections and move their work on.

“At its heart, the programme is about giving people the space to share ideas that can help the sector move forward, and I’m looking forward to seeing the creativity and insight that this year’s applicants will bring.”

James Hopwood, Director of Agriculture at McCain GB&I said: "We're delighted to continue our partnership with the Oxford Farming Conference and support the Inspiring Innovators programme. At McCain, we believe that innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing are essential to building a resilient future for British agriculture. Through this partnership, we're proud to support emerging leaders from across the agri-food sector, helping them develop new ideas, broaden networks and gain the confidence and skills needed to drive positive change. By investing in people and practical innovation, we can help equip the sector to navigate the challenges facing our industry and seize new opportunities."

Applicants are invited to submit a written proposal of no more than 600 words, explaining their concept or research, how it relates to the theme of “Harmony” and why they would like to present it at OFC27. Proposals must be accompanied by a video lasting no longer than three minutes, delivering their “elevator pitch” for the idea or business.

The deadline for submissions is 30th September 2026.
