Comic Farmer Takes On Oxford

Jim Smith

Scots comedian - and Perthshire mixed farmer when he’s not on the stage - Jim Smith brought some light relief to the Oxford Farming Conference last night with the first-ever OFC Comedy Night. Held in the city’s Old Fire Station, Jim, who is also the younger brother of this year’s Chairman, Caroline Millar, took a comic view of the day at the conference in his one-hour gig. His quick eye and cheeky wit put a comic spin on some of the speakers and quotes of the day, while his sketches of Countryfile drew laughter from the BBC farming team in the audience, as well as familiar viewers. Pieces on the WI, farmers travelling to London and hypothesising about pregnant women and lambing season all struck a chord with the farming-centric audience.

“I really enjoyed it after quite an intensive and serious day,” said one audience member. “Seeing a different part of the city and a totally different activity has really added to the whole rich experience of the OFC.”
